Beth Lindsay Templeton received the Order of the Silver Crescent, South Carolina’s highest civilian award for significant contributions, leadership, volunteerism and lifelong influence within a region or community. Majority Leader Bruce Bannister presented the award during a recent ceremony at the Chamber of Commerce.

The Rev. Templeton is a public speaker, Presbyterian Church USA minister, writer, and founder and CEO of Our Eyes Were Opened, Inc. who has devoted her life to service, compassion, and advocacy for the less fortunate. She served as Executive Director of United Ministries for 30 years, where she helped develop numerous programs, including housing for senior citizens/people with disabilities; free medical clinic; homeless coalition; child care agency; prostitution rehabilitation; GED program; and employment readiness. Since 2012, she has focused her ministry on expanding understanding about people who live in poverty in order to decrease judgment and increase compassion.
